Aleix Vidal: ‘The best thing is being able to help the team’

Barça overcome a great opposition and secure three valuable points in La Liga race

Luis Enrique’s men have beaten Athletic Club Bilbao by a 3-0 scoreboard with goals from Paco Alcácer, Lionel Messi and Aleix Vidal. The Catalan right back was one of the players who expressed his joy after the match for the team’s solid performance: “The best thing is being able to help the team with my game and if on top of that I can score goals, then much better”. Vidal has taken advantage of the coach’s opportunities by striking two goals and giving four assists in the last seven games.

Vidal considered that “Athletic are always a team who complicates things greatly, they have very good physical players of the highest level and if we’re not having the best of days, it’s harder to play from the back and beat them. The 3-0 scoreboard has been well deserved although it was very tough to achieve it”.

Aleix also has praising words for Neymar’s outstanding game once again: “Neymar is still the same: he’s at a awesome level and he has a great dribbling ability. I’m glad of being able to share the locker room with him. It’s a fortune to have Messi, Suárez and him [on the team]. It’s the best thing that can happen to you. When things get tough, they’re present to fix it up”.

Another goalscorer against the Basque side was Alcácer who netted in his first strike for Barça in La Liga: “I’m very happy for the goal”, he said, “but the most important thing is the victory. The team comes first”. Paco explained that “in the first half we wanted to build from the back and their pressure has caused us troubles. But the match was almost in our hands with the two goals in the first part”. The striker remarked as well that “if there are rotations all the players must be prepared to help the team”.

Ter Stegen agreed with the team’s struggles to play from the defense in the first half: “Bilbao have pressured us well and we have had problems when playing from the back. However, the win means we have worked well defensively. We’re on the right track and have won a difficult match. There are always things you can improve and we must be perfectionists”, said the German goalie.
