Vinyals claims Barcelona B to be the canary in the coal mine.

Struggling B-team manager levels unsubtle shot at board

FC Barcelona B manager Jordi Vinyals is likely taking a very close look at the delicate predicament in which his squad has found itself in La Liga Adelante.

Vinyals did everything short of calling out the board for the mismanagement of the famed Barcelona academy, La Masia, when he vented his institutional frustrations to the press.

“The core values of La Masia have slowly degenerated very much, and we find ourselves with a group that takes on much of this loss," Vinyals said.

Barça B goes into round 31 of the second division in 21st place against CD Tenerife and with zero victories in six matches under the newly promoted manager. The relegation-bound squad has been winless in its last seven match days and many of its starters are away on international duty.

“Many people are at fault, including myself, considering I have been here for two years,” Vinyals said. "It is now permitted that the players believe they are above the club.”

Regarding Alen Halilović, who threw a tantrum after being subbed off in the 27th minute against Alcorcón, Vinyals indicated he is symptomatic of larger problems both in and out of the dressing room. He also opted to remain hopeful.

“It’s a problem that shows evidence of what is happening and what has happened at the club,” Vinyals said. “We are working on [restoring core values]. We want the players to respect one another, for the club and the manager."

With both his job and the team’s place in the second division on the line, Vinyals called on the club’s supporters to assist in the most effective way possible ahead of their match against Tenerife.

“I ask Barcelona members and fans to come to the Miniestadí on Sunday to help us and cheer for the team,” Vinyals said. “There is no team that can reach its goals without responsibility, strength, solidarity and humility."
