Players’ reactions after winning the Spanish Cup

After winning the Copa del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao, several FC Barcelona players spoke to the press.

Xavi Hernández

“I wanted to lift the cup with Andrés, I’m happy we could do it. I’m happy not only because we won, but because I played almost the entire second half.”

“Messi’s first goal was scandalous, awesome. I think it’s one of the best goals he’s ever scored.

“We have absolute confidence right now, but we must be cautious. Juventus is a great team, but we’re very good and very confident.”

Gerard Piqué

“We’ll enjoy this tonight and tomorrow we’ll start preparing for the Champions League final, the most important and prestigious final. Winning that would give us a perfect season, with the double, we can now say this has been a great season.”

“We prepared very well for this match. Athletic, our opponent, has a lot of history and while there may be more powerful opponents in Spain, we prepared for them as if they were Atletico Madrid or Real Madrid. They closed things off well in the attack.”

“I’ve been watching Messi for many, many years and enjoying it. That was a golazo, a top goal.”

“Let’s not make a big deal of the row at the end, it’s a minor issue, Neymar probably shouldn’t have gone for something so spectacular.”

Neymar

“I'm very happy about everything we've achieved and I congratulate the team for the way we played. We're in good shape, physically. We were always on control of the match and we have to carry on the same way until the end [of the season].”

“Leo is amazing, he's a star, for me he is the best player in the world and it's an honor to be part of this team, with players of such high quality.”

“It's football, and in football these things happen. It's incredible. People can get angry, but it's my way of playing and I've been doing it for years. I'm not going to change the way I play because it annoys other people.”

“We've won the double, but there's another week to go; there are still 90 minutes to play.”

Javier Mascherano

“We’re not overconfident, but we have the confidence that doing things well gives you.”

“It’s a bit tiring to talk about Leo. You can’t stop him. Everything depends on him. He has the game in his boots.”

“In January you don’t lose the league, you don’t lose anything. You always have to believe, trust and be calm. The coach has had a very important influence. He has a great part of the ‘guilt’. I’m very happy for him.”
