Mascherano chosen as 4th captain

When Xavi Hernández left for Qatar, he also left a captaincy spot open in the FC Barcelona dressing room. Andrés Iniesta, Leo Messi and Sergio Busquets moved up a spot automatically, but the fourth captain had to be chosen.

With Claudio Bravo being the last to arrive from his vacations after winning the Copa América with Chile, the squad was complete and the voting could happen.

The vote took place before this morning’s training session and there were two clear favorites for the spot: Javier Mascherano, known as ‘the captain without an armband’ and Gerard Piqué, culé since he was born and who has been playing for the first team since returning from England in 2008.

Finally, the chosen one was Mascherano, who received applause by his teammates and all of the technical staff before the start of the training.
