Chelsea tells Sergi Roberto they're willing to pay his €40m release clause

The midfielder is the latest Barça player to be linked to a move away from the club

After a successful season with Barça, Sergi Roberto has created a name for himself with multiple clubs interested in the Barcelona youth product. According to Gerardo Romero, Antonio Conte’s Chelsea is considering to sign the 25-year old player, as the Blues are in search for a wing-back. The deal would include the English side paying the homegrown footballer’s €40m release clause.

However, Barca’s new boss Ernesto Valverde has already expressed his interest in working with the versatile fullback and views Roberto as a crucial part to his plans for the upcoming 2017/2018 campaign.

Sergi Roberto became an important starter under Luis Enrique last season, managing 47 appearances with Messi and company, but his spot on the starting line-up is in doubts as Barcelona seeks another midfielder and signed Nélson Semedo from Benfica for the right back position. Sergi is loyal to the club, but he also aims to play as much as possible.
