Barcelona still holds a contractual advantage to sign Saul Niguez
David Villa's sale could still bring benefits to Barça.
Saúl Ñíguez is once again back in the spotlight after performing wonderfully well for Luis Enrique's Spain side, and rumors linking him to Barcelona have started to surface. The player rejected moving to Catalonia twice when the club started moving for him, in 2016 and 2017, when he still had a €45m clause and then a €80m release clause and Bartomeu was willing to play his clause to see him in Blaugrana, especially after the Neymar debacle.
Barça has a first option on his signing since selling David Villa for almost nothing back in 2013. If Atlético was willing to sell Saúl at any time, the club has an obligation to inform Barcelona to see if they submit a counter offer. The same was true of right back Javier Manquillo, a player most people recall after a quiet stint on loan at Liverpool.
His current clause stands at €150m, and the player has repeatedly insisted that he's sticking at Atleti to see things through with Simeone, but this is football and you never know when that will change. Until then, Barça might have already signed another midfielder, such as De Jong and Pogba.
