Barcelona asks the Spanish FA and FIFA to register Arda Turan

FC Barcelona has formally asked the Spanish FA and FIFA to allow the Arda Turan registration to replace the injured Rafinha. The Brazilian footballer has undergone surgery on Tuesday and reports say he’ll be out of action for at least six months. This kind of situation, a long-term injury, is normally reason enough to allow a club to register a new player. However, the same may not apply in Barça’s case because of the ban FIFA has imposed on the club which prohibits the club to register any player until January 4, 2016. The club itself had already inquired about such possibility during the summer and FIFA’s response was negative.

Legal minds have advised FC Barcelona to register Arda Turan because the Spanish FA regulation allows it. The issue is whether FIFA has a say on the matter. “FIFA won’t let us register any player until January 4, but we are working on different options,” said Bartomeu last Sunday after the match against Levante.

Meanwhile, Turan’s agent, Ahmed Bulut, said the midfielder is mentally and physically prepared to play at once if it’s necessary: “It won’t be easy to convince FIFA. Arda doesn’t believe they’ll let him play before January, but he’s ready anyway. Arda feels at home in Barça. Rafinha’s injury is awful news and to Arda it would be really good if he’s able to play.”
