Andrés Iniesta sidelined for six to eight weeks
The Barça captain got injured after a challenge from Valencia’s Enzo Pérez
The intense rollercoaster that was yesterday's game against Valencia left one important casualty in Barça’s captain Andrés Iniesta, who was at the end of a rough challenge from Argentinian midfielder Enzo Pérez. Iniesta had to be subbed off in the 14th minute showing clear signs of pain, and given the images and replays of the action Barça’s fans were expecting for the worst case scenario.
Although any injury is unfortunate, the official medical report from the club felt like a winning lottery ticket: the Manchego “only” suffered a partial tear of the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee and is expected to be out of action for six to eight weeks.
Therefore, Iniesta will possibly miss up to 14 matches, all of Barça’s 2016 remaining schedule, including the first Clásico of the season due to be played on December 3rd at the Camp Nou and he should return in the first game of 2017 against Villarreal.
