The midfielder and Barça captain is doubtful for Luis Enrique's team to play their game against Villarreal on Sunday. Andrés Iniesta suffered some muscular problems after the Champions League game against Arsenal during midweek. He has therefore been left out of Vicente del Bosque's squad as a result. The Spanish squad will face Italy and Romania on March 24th and 27th in two friendly games.

The Blaugrana midfielder was taken off against Arsenal at Camp Nou, which at that point did seem like a tactical switch. Just now it looks to be the result of that Iniesta was not feeling comfortable anymore.

Del Bosque spoke to Iniesta and explained that he was told that the Spanish midfielder had a muscle pain and therefore is not coming with the national team. This could possibly end up being what stops him from playing against Villarreal. Luis Enrique does not want to take any risks either with a tough schedule ahead in April starting with Barcelona facing Real Madrid in the Clasico and having to play Atlético de Madrid in the UEFA Champions League quarter finals.
