Alex Song loaned to West Ham

Alex Song’s situation has finally been resolved on the last day of the summer transfer window. FC Barcelona announced that the midfielder is going back on loan to West Ham United where he was also on loan last season. There was uncertainty surrounding the deal and it had been postponed due to the Cameroonian player’s injury problems this summer, but on Monday he was able to pass the medical at the English club and the transfer could be finalized.

Song told West Ham’s official site that he is “very happy.” He said: “For me it was very important to come back because when I was here I had a great rapport with the fans and the Club. I feel at home, everything feels at home, for my family too, they're set up very well here. My kids are playing for West Ham academy. Everything was in a good place for me to come back here and I'm very happy to be here. It's a pleasure and it's like I never left here. I'm still here and I'm happy.”

Signed in 2012 from Arsenal on a four-year deal, Song has played 65 games in two seasons for Barça. Last summer, manager Luis Enrique made it clear that he didn’t count on him so he was loaned to West Ham. The situation was repeated this summer. Song’s contract with FC Barcelona is set to expire on June 30, 2016, which means that he will become a free agent next summer and Barça will not get any money out of this deal.
