Marc-Andre ter Stegen (8): It was his first Barcelona game as captain and he was wonderful. Made many vital saves in the first half otherwise we would have lost the game without any doubt. Passing was in general fine, even his long passing. It was the same in the second half, some vital saves to keep us in front but was really unlucky to concede the second which bounced off Aspas’ arm. 2nd game in a row we would’ve lost if it wasn’t for him.

Nélson Semedo (6): Solid start, got involved and caused some problems to Celta when he was on the ball. Defensively, he did well at times but it was clear this back 4 never played together and they were sometimes out of sync. However, he won most of his duels and managed 5 tackles, 2 clearances. Passing was fine, but he gave the ball away too easily at times.

Yerry Mina (6): Solid in 1 on 1 defending, Managed a couple of important blocks and interceptions, but positionally he was all over the place at times. It doesn’t help that this back 4 isn’t used to playing together. He dealt with Aspas quite well in 1 on 1 situations. Passing was good but he’s sometimes too careless on the ball, which is hopefully something he’ll improve on.

Thomas Vermaelen (6.5): Played a decent game. He passed the ball well as you’d expect and had to do a lot of covering for Digne who played quite bad. He managed to win all his aerial duels and tackles which was surprising since he’s never played with this back 4 before and had little match rhythm. None of the goals were due to his fault.

Lucas Digne (5): Woeful, it was clear that the injury halted his rhythm badly. His passing for the most part was fine but when he got in the final third, he was bad. He and Coutinho weren’t on the same wavelength. Defensively, he was caught out of position a lot, Vermaelen had to do a lot of covering for him. It just looked like it was the first time he played with these group of players.

André Gomes (5.5): Solid first half until he made a crucial mistake which Celta took advantage of and scored the equaliser. He passed the ball well and didn’t give it away as much as his partners in midfield. Got subbed off after 60 minutes. He has the potential but it seems like he always has a huge mistake in him and his level of concentration just isn’t there through the entire game.

Paulinho (6): Did well getting into good positions in Celta’ final third and he was dangerous as a goalscoring threat, but he was again not good on the ball. Hit the post with a solid header earlier in the 1st half. Didn’t make great decisions when he was on the ball, seemed to slow down the play a bit too much whenever Barça had a chance to counter. Involved in Barça’s 2nd goal, his shot would’ve gone to the back of the net but Paco took a touch and stole it from the Brazilian. Later on, he showed a good connection with Messi at times.

Denis Suárez (5): Had some bright moments but as a whole was not so good. On multiple occasions he lost the ball and it led to counter attacks for Celta. He had a few chances to score and honestly should’ve but you could see that the lack of game time affected his rhythm. This game won’t do him much help with getting more gametime.

Philippe Coutinho (7): One of his best games for Barcelona. As a winger he plays really well. Many times, he created chances. 3 key passes to be precise. Celta had trouble dealing with him. His passing was good and not wasteful like it has been. On the first goal, he smartly left it for Dembélé who scored to put us in front. Without him our attacking threat in the first half would’ve been next to 0. He was unlucky not to bag 2 assists especially after weaving through 2/3 players and looping it to Paulinho who just missed.

Ousmane Dembélé (6.5): Hot and cold performance, he was good in some periods of the game and not that good in others. Should work on taking care of the ball better, he gets dispossessed too much at times. His passing wasn’t as great as it was in some other games but he still managed a couple of great passes. Wonderful volleyed finish from the edge of the box to score the opener for Barça. He wasn’t as active in the 2nd half, was often losing his duels and gave the ball away which Celta took advantage of and scored the equaliser. Subbed off after 78 minutes.

Paco Alcácer (6.5): Looked isolated for the most part of the game. He only had 2 shots on goal. However, he had a solid assist to Dembélé for Barça’s 1st goal and made it count. More of the same in the 2nd half, didn’t see too much of the ball. Scored to make it 2-1 after a great team move. Paulinho’s shot was already going in but he took the last touch. He worked well defensively at times, especially after Sergi got sent off.

Lionel Messi (7): Replaced Coutinho midway through the second half and had an instant impact. We were able to hold the ball longer and Celta started pressing less and moved into a more defensive shape due to the danger he possessed. Played a key role in the 2nd goal but it won’t get noticed too much. Without him coming on, we would’ve been badly overrun in the second half.

Sergi Roberto: Replaced Gomes with 30 minutes left in the game. He passed the ball well while he was on the pitch, completed all of his passes and managed to create a chance. But he got sent off after Barça’s defence collapsed and he fouled Aspas being the last man.

Aleix Vidal: Replaced Dembélé in the last 15 minutes. Not much to say and he didn’t manage to make a difference as Barça were down to 10 men. Only had 2 passes and manage 1 interception.
