Marc-Andre ter Stegen (6): Had a quiet game. Las Palmas didn’t test him throughout the 90 minutes. Passing was as good as usual. He couldn’t really do much on the penalty. It was near enough impossible to stop.

Sergi Roberto (5): Not a great game for him. He couldn’t really impact the game going forward, didn’t attempt a single cross in the entire game which pretty much says it all. He was more active and received the ball more in the 2nd half but couldn’t do much. Defensively, he didn’t have much to do.

Thomas Vermaelen (6): Didn’t make too many mistakes but he wasn’t troubled much defensively. Passing was good. He managed a couple of important clearances. Not much he could do on on the corner which led to a penalty for Las Palmas, he was clearly fouled on the play and Lahoz somehow missed it.

Samuel Umtiti (6): Had an alright game, not too special but not horrible. His passing for large parts was fine. At times he made some defensive mistakes which allowed Calleri to get the better of him but it didn’t lead to much at all. In the past few games, he’s been shaky but he’ll get rid of this dip of form soon. Nothing he could’ve done on the goal because the penalty call was absolutely ludicrous.

Lucas Digne (5): Filled in for Alba and was good for little parts of the game. Got up and down the pitch really well and pressing well. His passing wasn’t bad at all but he played very safe passes. He took a yellow for a late challenge but other than this he’s been good. In the second half, he was awful. He did nothing right, his second half was summed up by putting a cross near enough out the stadium with no pressure on him. It wasn’t clear whether he or Sergi gave away the penalty. It was harsh to call the pen on either incident however. For me he is better at CB than LB and should not play LB anytime soon.

Sergio Busquets (6.5): Misplaced a couple of passes early on, which is unusual. He started getting better as the game went on but Barça couldn’t create too many chances. Had a couple of great, trademark passes between the lines to Messi but those led to nothing eventually. Done well off the ball, solid defensively.

Paulinho (1): Once again the worst player on the pitch, by some distance. Offered absolutely nothing in midfield, you could barely even tell he was on the pitch in the 1st half. No tactical awareness, awful passing. Only won 1 out of 9 duels and committed 5 fouls. Finally subbed off after 63 minutes. He shouldn’t be anywhere close to a starting position in midfield.

Andres Iniesta (6): Had a mixed game. Got on the ball a lot but wasn’t able to create too much, he was a lot better when we transitioned from defence to attack after winning the ball. Passing at times has been a bit wayward but it was expected against such a high pressing team. He linked up well with Busi and Messi like he does and brought them into the game. Some of his defensive work was really good. In the second half, he found it more difficult to play due to our performance levels dropping. He was subbed for Dembélé.

Aleix Vidal (5): Didn’t have much impact on the game at all. He was good for bringing width but his technical abilities weren’t of the level we needed in this game, he wasn’t able to exploit 1v1’s and the space he got. His passing was fine but for large parts of the game he was a bystander. The idea of playing him made sense but he isn’t good enough.

Lionel Messi (7): Barça’s best player yet again. He looked dangerous from the start and Las Palmas players could only stop him by fouling him in dangerous areas. He got their entire backline booked pretty early in the game. One of those fouls led to his fantastic free-kick goal to make it 1-0. He wasn’t as good in the 2nd half but he was still Barça’s only dangerous player on the pitch, practically. The only poor aspect of his game was the passing, which wasn’t the best throughout the game. Let’s hope he gets more support on Sunday.

Luis Suárez (5): Looked cautious from the start, and this led to a disappointing performance. He performs the best when he plays on the edge and he couldn’t do it in this game since he was one card away from getting suspended for the Atleti game. Got dispossessed quite a lot and the only real chance he had came early on when Barça forced Las Palmas into a mistake, but Messi’s pass came a bit too late. He could’ve perhaps passed the ball back but he decided to shoot and Las Palmas GK did well. Here’s hoping he redeems himself on Sunday.

Philippe Coutinho: The Brazilian replaced Vidal midway through the second half and made an good impact when he played a wide role, we started creating more chances and we got into better positions in the final third. Once he was moved into the MF, his performance declined. He isn’t adapted to playing in MF just yet but does play well when he’s a winger or wide MF player.

Ivan Rakitić: Replaced Paulinho in the last 30 minutes of the game. Batça managed to gain more control in the middle of the pitch after this substitution and he was more involved than the Brazilian, but couldn’t really open up the Las Palmas defence. Completed 41 passes in 30 minutes while Paulinho only managed 16 in more than 60 minutes on the pitch which is quite absurd.

Ousmane Dembélé: Should’ve started, but came on for Iniesta with 15 minutes left. The conditions for him weren’t the best by this time he was double marked when he got the ball and Las Palmas sat back, earlier in the game he would’ve had a lot more freedom and space to cause trouble for Las Palmas. He had a chance to score but his shot was tame and easy to save. It was difficult for him to make an impact on the game but in the small part he played, he was better than Vidal and Paulinho.
