The man that almost signed Messi for River Plate reveals his story

Lionel could've played for one of Argentina's biggest clubs if circumstances were different

Eduardo Abrahamian worked with the River Plate youth teams, and recently he revealed more about the one week that Messi was on trial for the Argentinian club, once scoring 16 goals in a single match. But why the club didn't keep or try to sign him?

Speaking to the American edition of Goal, Eduardo said: "I recall his impact on his first match. He was small, but we did not care about size, but technical qualities and he had a lot of it. He was incredible. He was in Buenos Aires for three or four days, and I had to call the club's general director to see him."

He continued, revealing that he personally wanted to sign him at all costs, but it didn't happen because Messi's father needed somewhere to stay, and the club wasn't willing to make this investment. Eduardo still criticizes River Plate's decision at the time, and that they should've taken this risk, much like Boca Juniors did with Diego Maradona.
