Sergio Busquets guarantees his long term future with Barça
The Catalan midfielder signed his contract extension and said that “my dream is to retire at Barça”
Sergio Busquets Burgos (Sabadell, 1988) has come a long way from the club’s youth ranks to Barça’s first team, providing balance and tempo to our system for the last eight years. And now the club has secured the services of such important player at least until the 2020/21 season. This Thursday at noon, Busquets has signed his contract renewal for four more seasons plus a two-year option that could keep him donning the Blaugrana jersey until the 2022/23 campaign, depending on the number of matches played.
“I’m looking forward to continue in the club of my life. We hope to keep winning and that we stay healthy”, said after signing his contract. “My dream is to retire at Barça. We have the squad to keep on winning and Barça’s philosophy cannot be found anywhere else.”
Since debuting with the senior team in the 2008/09 season under Pep Guardiola’s guidance, Busquets has become an essential player acting as the pivot where defense and attack converge for both Barcelona’s first team and the Spanish national squad. He has played so far a total of 390 games with Barça, scoring 12 goals and winning three Champions League, six La Liga titles, three Club world Cups, three European Super Cups and five Spanish Super Cups, alongside two European Championships and a World Cup with Spain.
