Samuel Umtiti officially signs with Barcelona
The France international joins the club on a five year deal
The much awaited arrival of a promising young centre-back is finally official as FC Barcelona today have announced the signing of the 22-year old French defender, Samuel Umtiti, for 25 million euros.
Despite his young age, Umtiti made a total of 170 appearances for Lyon, many of them as captain. He was named one of Ligue 1's best defenders last season along Thiago Silva.
Umtiti recently made his international debut in the UEFA Euro 2016 during France’s quarter-final against Iceland. And statistically, he was also one of Euro's best defenders as he was a crucial part behind France reaching the final.
He is mainly a CB, but can play LB as well; which is a good sign knowing how Luis Enrique likes rotations. So our possible list of centre-backs next season will be: Gerard Pique, Javier Mascherano, Jeremy Mathieu and Samuel Umtiti, enough to make culés a bit more comfortable when it comes to our defensive line.
