Jordi Majó proposes a technological revolution

Majó wants to use an electronic system for FC Barcelona elections

The precandidate Jordi Majó has explained in a press conference one of the cornerstones of his presidential campaign: the electronic voting. This project would be implemented immediately in the assemblies and consultation processes, testing its effectiveness before the next presidential elections, six years from now.

Majó assured the voting turnout would increase “20 or 30 percent” and that would allow “the elections to be more democratic, all the members would have the same chance of participating, the ones in Barcelona or in Japan.” According to the precandidate “the current system promotes a low participation,” particularly with the upcoming elections on July 18 since “it will be difficult to attend for the socís with businesses, given it’s a Saturday.”

Scytl Secure Electronic Voting is the Catalan company that has partnered with Majó and its General Manager, Perre Vallès, assured the safety is guaranteed by means of a biometric system: “The electronic voting is safer than conventional voting. There are several technological mechanisms to avoid identity theft in the voting.”

The process wouldn’t be complicated, according to Vallès, and would take place on the next license update where the members would have to record their fingerprints and voice notes. These biometric parameters would guarantee that no other person could replace them in the electronic voting. Vallès added: “This information would be managed by FC Barcelona but would never identify the candidate the member voted for, ensuring a total privacy in the process.”

Majó explained that in case he doesn’t win the presidential elections, he would put the system at the disposal of the new president: “Whoever wins the elections, I put at the disposal of the club this project because this is a chance we can’t pass by and I find it essential in order for the members to [be more involved in the club’s decision-making]. The socís would be able to take part in many of the club decisions thanks to the electronic voting.” Plus, it would allow “an absolute transparency” in others activities such as the waiting lists for the season tickets or the draw for the finals tickets.

The precandidate allayed fears that the online voting could mean the arrival of a foreign president and remarked that “they have asked me for a certificate of residence of my last 10 years in Catalunya”.

Scytl Secure Electronic Voting is the worldwide leader in its field with 90% share of the market, working in 19 of the 21 countries with electronic voting, among them are the United States, France, UK and Australia.

“They have offered us Sergio Ramos”

In sporting matters, Majó confirmed he has been contacted regarding the possible signing of Sergio Ramos as an electoral asset, although he said “he didn’t want to play that game to increase Ramos’ worth at Real Madrid”.

“About a month and a half ago, they have offered us Sergio Ramos and I don’t know if to anyone else. But we are not going to play that game, we are not gonna be the reason to increase his value at Real Madrid. If they have offered him to another pre-candidate and he says yes, that’s his problem, but we ruled him out completely”, said Majó.

“We haven’t had contact with René [Ramos’ brother and agent] but through an intermediary. I think it’s a subject of mutual interest between another pre-candidate and them. It is what it is”.

In his presentation to the media Majó confirmed if he wins the elections he would name Michael Laudrup as the club’s Sporting Manager, to whom he has already signed a pre-contract and will present him the next July 4 in a press conference.

“With Laudrup, I have thought about the person not the name. If I were thinking about the name, I’d be appointing a media star. Laudrup is smart, he has experience, the proper age and the Barça culture. He has a good relationship with Cruyff, that’s important”.
