FC Barcelona officially reveals the new kit for the 2016/17 season
The shirt resembles the one worn in the 1991/92 season when the club won its first European Cup
On Monday morning, the club has officially reveal the new kit for the upcoming season. For the next campaign, the players will be wearing a new shirt which displays the club’s classic vertical stripes alternating FC Barcelona’s traditional red and blue with lighter shades. This design resembles and honours the model worn by the team in the 1991/92 season, when the club won its first ever European Cup at Wembley.
References to the club's symbols appear on both the interior and exterior of the shirt. “Barça” is knit into the back collar alongside a small Catalan flag, the Senyera. “Un Crit’” and “Valent,” which together mean “Our Cry is Bold” in Catalan, are placed inside right and left cuffs, respectively. The phrase draws from the club’s official fan anthem “Cant del Barça”.
The new FC Barcelona kit incorporates Nike’s most advanced technology, AeroSwift, which uses a new, textured high-performance yarn that wicks sweat from the skin. The shirt and shorts are also constructed using a new knitting process integrating single and double stitching to enhance breathability, stretch, and fit.
