Cillessen: ‘It’s a dream to play and live in Barcelona’

The Dutch goalkeeper says in his presentation that he’s ready for Barça’s game style

Jasper Cillessen was officially presented by the club after his transfer from Dutch side AFC Ajax. Here are the most important statements he shared with the media:

“I'm very happy to be here. The first training was cut short because I had to come here and be presented, but it was great and interesting."

"I hope that people will be happy with my performances, I've played at the Camp Nou before."

"I'm here to do my best and I know the competition is tough, but I will work hard to make the coach happy with me."

"Barcelona is a fascinating City. It's a dream to be able to live and work here."

"I've talked to Luis Enrique. We didn't go into details, but playing goalkeeper is not that different here than at Ajax."

"I've had good feelings since I got here. The coach will decide who plays and I'll make it as difficult for him as I can."

"My idol was a Dutch GK and it was very important to watch him play and a great experience. I learned a lot from him."

"I didn't play with Suárez at Ajax, but I'm sure we'll get along well here."

"It's very special to follow Cruyff as a Dutchman here. I knew him and talked to him. Knowing that he was here is a stimulus."

"Ter Stegen is a great goalkeeper, talented, a lot of footballing qualities and I'd like to be at his level. I can talk to Marc in English or German, I'm sure we'll get along well."

"I want to do great things like Van der Saar who is an institution in the Netherlands. Hesp was also very good."

The new Barcelona signing was also joined on this press conference by Jordi Mestre, Albert Soler and Robert Fernández, who share their thoughts as well on several topics:

Jordi Mestre

"I want to welcome Cillessen and thank Claudio Bravo for his service in these two years and wish him good luck at his new club."

"[Ariedo] Braida is always working with our scouting team. Whenever we've needed him he has given his input regarding players."

Albert Soler

"I also want to welcome Cillessen and thank Bravo and hope that he'll be able to say goodbye to the fans on the day of the Champions League game."

"Samper has been loaned to Granada who will pay his salary and also a penalty fee in case he doesn't play enough games."

"Douglas will go on loan to Sporting who will have to pay a penalty fee in case he doesn't play. His salary will still be paid by FCB"

"Bravo didn't leave because he wasn't a starter. We offered him a renewal and he decided to accept another offer."

"Both the academy and the professional football parts are working well."

"The players coming up from La Masia are better or worse depending on the season, but the work done is good."

"The fact that a player like Samper got to the first team is very important, but it's also important for him to play."

"We could see with other youngsters that going on loan worked and they're not with the first team."

"The competition in Barça squad is not the same as that at other clubs."

"We want our loaned players to play as much as possible, which is why we impose penalty fees if they don't."

"The level of our academy is still good if there are first league teams to want our youngsters to start for them."

"The penalty fee the clubs have to pay is inversely proportional with the percentage of games they play."

"Marlon's paperwork will be sorted soon. He went to Brazil to solve this, usually takes 2-3 weeks."

"We don't have all the paperwork needed for Cillessen either, so he won't be able to play against Athletic. We'll solve it on Monday."

"From a sporting point of view, Bravo's 2 years here were magnificent. From an economic point of view, he was bought for 12M and sold for 18M+2M."

Robert Fernández

"I said that I wanted Douglas to go somewhere and play. He hadn't played in a long time."

"To really evaluate a player you need him to play, so this is a good operation for Douglas. He'll have to win his place there."

"I'm sure that Douglas will do well, I wish him the best."

"Regarding Samper, we discussed this with Luis Enrique and decided that a loan was the best option right now. He needs to play."

"Alcácer? The market is open until the 31st and we have to wait. He's a player we're interested in, but I can't say more."

"I'm always optimistic. It's logical that Barça's transfers are complicated because it's hard to get here. The demands are high."

"We have a great team that is hard to improve and that makes our work hard. But I'm optimistic."

"Is it Paco Alcacer or no one? Yes."

"Being a Barça goalkeeper isn't easy. You have to have special qualities: one of them is a great personality, which Jasper does and we've seen it."

"Jasper dominates the ball with his feet and he's a person that will adapt to the club fast."

"No one here can say a bad word about Bravo. We fought until the end for him to stay here."

"Bravo had 2 years of contract left. This was when we had to renew him, but he asked to leave."

"The Alcácer transfer is difficult because some situations are complicated. He's a player we're interested in."

"It's not about winning or losing with the goalkeeper operation. It's just the reality."
