Barça will bring a world class centre back next window and the BVB defender could be the main target

Barcelona have their eyes set on Dortmund’s solid central back Mats Hummels. According to Bild, the German international has been approached by elite clubs, Manchester United and Arsenal, and the Catalan giants have stepped up their interest, aiming to sign the 27- year old this summer.

With two of Barça’s defenders, Thomas Vermaelen and Jeremy Mathieu sidelined due to long term injuries and not living up to expectations, Hummels could slide right into their positions, giving more security to the Blaugrana back four.

Hummels has been with the German side since 2008, instantly gaining a starting spot in the team’s starting XI. However, there has not been any agreements so far with Borussia Dortmund to extend his contract beyond 2017, as the centre back will consider his moving options. Per German newspaper, Bild, the native German player recently expressed his thoughts about a possible summer move:

“I do not necessarily want [to leave], but I have to make a big decision. I believe that all parties want to clearly hear the decision before the European Championship.”

“Now, if I do sign a long-term contract [with Dortmund], I will be 31 or 32 years old at the end of the season. At the moment I do not plan to play until I'm 38. I want to play a certain kind of football but I also want to win titles. The better the team, the greater the stimulus, to be part of it.”

His remarkable passing ability and great vision will prove to be a great fit with Luis Enrique’s men. Will Barcelona pen a contract with the German this summer before he reconsiders another move?
